Music lovers like us (and you) all love mixtapes. This one, put together by Philly local musician Charlie Hall has a summer came and went kind of musical vibe. Which is why Mr. Hall decided to give the mixtape that name. While you may not know his name, Hall’s done some fantastic work of note over the last several years including drumming in War On Drugs, playing an assortment of instruments with the Lindsey Buckingham Appreciation Society, singing with The Silver Ages. He’s been one of Philly’s secret-go-to guys and all the records and band’s he’s played with are that much better with him. Of course, he’s got incredible musical taste in music and has pulled together songs by Tears for Fears, Gayngs, Beach House, Cocteau Twins, The Clientele, Grouper, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Ian Matthews, The Stills Young Band, Genesis, The Pretenders, Washed Out, Sun Airway, Miles Davis, Nightlands, Feist, Richard Hawley and Derek and the Dominoes which you can download here. The only thing missing here is some Association.
Philly’s Sun Airway had a bust day yesterday, dropping a mixtape, announcing a tour with Bear In Heaven and giving away another song (below) from their forthcoming debut on Dead Oceans called Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier out on October 26th, All good stuff below.

Yonder over at Happy Parts my man Charles has busted out a great discovery by Brazilian born & Florida raised Laws. Dig the guy’s flow (reminds me a tad of Em). Dig the sample. Get one with the hook. This is strong. Produced by the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League.

The Milwaukee-to-Brooklyn brother duo French Horn Rebellion are strong like The Temptations, Hot Chip, Passion Pit, Janet Jackson, Hall & Oates, Phoenix and the cowbell. Robert and David grew up in Milwaukee. One of them does play the French Horn. They make music you can cut a rug to and a record coming out soon that I’m totally psyched to hear.

Just when you thought it was safe to turn over to side B of your summer mixtape crush in the cassette deck along comes this slamming mixtape compliments of the notorious Philly Broadzilla DJ’s. “Four years in the making” they say, “we finally finished our “Hipster Trainwreck Anthems” mix. No shame and no obscurity here…just 100% pure party jams and guilty pleasures, meticulously mixed by 3 obsessives.” I would divulge the song list but I have been sworn to secrecy. Seriously, this will crush you.
Summer’s here and vacation is right around the corner. What’s gonna be on your road trip mix? The fine folks from Daily Beatz have offered up this amazing audio solution. Listen in its entirety or drive on over here to pull down the individual tracks. My only complaint it: Where the heck of Steppenwolf’s “Born To Be Wild”?!?!?!?!?!
