The Band In Heaven are on to something

4 Jul

West Palm Beach’s The Band In Heaven (Ates Isildak & Lauren Dwyer) remind me of the diabolical bastard noise kids of Jesus and Mary Chain, Spacemen 3 and Black Tambourine who they cite as an influence on their myspace page. Underneath the murk and buzz hearkens a Spectoresque popness that’s quite hypnotic and and they turn their cover of the Cranberries “Dreams” into a throbbing nugget of bliss.

“Everyone is trying to get to the bar.
The name of the bar, the bar is called Heaven.
The band in Heaven they play my favorite song.
They play it one more time, they play it all night long.” – Talking Heads

Lower Dens

17 May

What does a song sound like that’s equal parts “Proud Mary” by Creedence and “Don’t Let Our Youth Go To Waste” by Galaxie 500?
Well, this new one by Baltimore’s Lower Dens, of course!.
Lower Dens is the new band put together by Jana Hunter. They’re releasing their debut record Twin-Hand Movement in July on Gnomonsong.

This jam is all about the ‘verb and the chord changes. Feel the breeze.
