Each week at WXPN, a local band records a session in the World Cafe studios. The Key Studio Sessions are curated and produced mostly by John Vettese, the editor of XPN’s The Key. Philly rapper Saudi Money has released a new mixtape, New Black History Month II. Money gets some help from Wyo & GrandeMarshall, and various production credits from Sunny Norway, Nascent & QB, Ben Pramuk & SamGreenS, and Problem. The 22 year old rapper recently announced his name change from Asaad to Saudi Money and is set to release his debut album 006 in March. The mixtape holds us over until then. Philly punk rockers Pissed Jeans thrashed it up in the WXPN World Cafe studio for a Key Session this past week. The band recently released their fourth LP, Honeys, on Sub Pop Records. This archive of their complete performance contains four songs from the new album, one song (“Pleasure Race”) from the band’s 2009 LP King of Jeans, a generous helping of guitar overdrive and primal screaming from vocalist Matt Korvette.
