Singer and songwriter Carter Tanton, former lead singer of Tulsa and current member of Lower Dens, is releasing his debut album Freeclouds on Western Vinyl on November 1st. The Boston musician wrote, recorded and performed almost the entire album himself and it was mixed in Philly by Brian McTear at Miner Street (where Marissa Nadler recorded her recent album, and home to the Shaking Through). And speaking of Nadler, Tanton recently recorded and co-wrote a song on her incredible new album.
Tanton’s new album is simply fantastic, and brings to mind solo Lennon, a little Leonard Cohen, a little Red House Painters. Mostly though, it’s got some very solid songwriting and Tanton has a unique voice. Look for a fall tour with Philly’s War On Drugs. Carter will be in town this Sunday nite when Lower Dens play at Johnny Brenda’s opening for Cass McCombs.
