Steve Winwood (not Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr) sings Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love”

30 Jun

Today in interwebmusicsphere hipsters galore repeatedly blogged about this video of one of my favorite new-ish-er bands, the terrific Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr covering Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love.” It’s cool that the kids are paying tribute to the icons and all that. Since I’ve seen a number of blogs with DE Jr Jr’s version of this song and none without the original, here ya go. The song was Winwood’s first number one Billboard Hot 100 hit, from the Back In The Highlife. It came out the summer of 1986, and that album was pretty much the soundtrack of that summer for me. And yeah, that’s Chaka Khan on backing vocals on this song.

Yeah. This is such an awesome album! I like the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. version, but this classic… wow!
