Indie singer-songwriter Carter Tanton used to be in a band called Tulsa. You may have heard this new song from Carter’s new album FREE CLOUDS which is streaming in its entirety here. The Boston area musician wrote, recorded and performed almost the entire album himself. It was mixed in Philly by Brian McTear (Miner Street and the man behind Sharon Van Etten’s break out “Love More” recording here). Carter also gets some help from the wonderful Marissa Nadler on the song “Fake Pretend” (listen below). (Tanton is also in Marissa’s band and recorded on her new album, which was also done here in Philly with Mr. McTear.) All this said, Tanton’s new album is simply fantastic. Brings to mind Lennon solo, a little Leonard Cohen, a little Red House Painters. Mostly though, it’s got some very solid songwriting, a really unique voice and lots of color. Check out the video he did for the song “Nylon,” and the song with Marissa on it. Great stuff.
