Singer-songwriter Caitlin Rose has an absolutely wonderful new album called Own Side Now that brings to mind the work of early Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, and Neko Case. Caitlin will be playing at least 1/2 dozen times at SXSW this week. She will also be a part of a live radio broadcast I am hosting on Friday at 3PM from the Radio Day Stage for WXPN in Philly from inside the SXSW convention center along with the Felice Brothers, Bobby Long and J Mascis that begins at 4PM Eastern Time/3PM Central Time. The complete schedule is here. Caitlin comes from very strong musical lineage; her mother Liz co-wrote Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” which won a Grammy for Song of the Year in 2009 and her father Johnny is a veteran of the Nashville music scene. That said, Caitlin stands on her own boldly as an emerging musician herself just bursting with talent. On her album, she plays it a bit old school country, references the West Coast 70’s LA music scene yet manages to sound very contemporary. Download the song below and be sure to tune in Friday to our broadcast from SXSW or if you’re at SXSW stop by and say hello.
