With “the groove our only guide.” Those words once sung by one of the wise funk fathers is the philosophy clearly at work on the new album from Jersey City’s Chico Mann on his new album due next week on Wax Poetic Records. Analogue Drift is one funky funky record. Stylistically bringing together funk, electro and Afro-Cuban rhythms, the record jams on from the first note to the last. It’s filled with infectious sinewy synth-funk jams (like the one below). Multi-instrumentalist Mann, whose real name is Marcos García was born in NYC. He synthesizes sounds that bring to my mind stuff like D. Train, Wilie Colon, Afrika Bambaata & Fela to create some serious booty shaking. No parking on the dance floor, as they say.
