Loving Dutch from Philly

9 Jun

The local band Dutch are releasing their album A Bright Cold Day today on Enemy Soil Records and it’s a riveting a collection of tripped-out hip-hop, ambient singer-songwriter “jams” with jazzy, even orchestral touches. There’s no shortage of musical diversity on this excellent album.

Dutch is comprised of Jedi Mind Tricks’ Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind and vocalist/songwriter Liz Fullerton. Stoupe, whose real name is Kevin Baldwin, is the production piece of Dutch while Fullerton supplies her warm and languid and beautiful vocals to a cinematic and sweeping collection of songs. Early fans are comparing Dutch to Portishead, however while the band mine similar trip hop territory, there’s much more diversity in album and the band’s musicality.
