The Rural Alberta Advantage are one of those emotionally engaging indie-rock bands who you just want to hug. Emotionally charged – thankfully not “emo” – the Toronto-based trio are fronted by Alberta-born Nils Edenloff and includes Amy Cole and Paul Banwatt. The band recently released their debut album Hometown. I forgive them for some of their Neutral Milk Hotelisms, and I forgive Nils for not being the greatest singer in the world. His nasally delivery can even get down right annoying. But damn, this trio is so darn convincing. And hey, was Gordon Gano the greatest singer in the world? No. Dig in. You may dig. And they can rock.
