Philly punk rockers Pissed Jeans thrashed it up in the WXPN World Cafe studio for a Key Session this past week. The band recently released their fourth LP, Honeys, on Sub Pop Records. This archive of their complete performance contains four songs from the new album, one song (“Pleasure Race”) from the band’s 2009 LP King of Jeans, a generous helping of guitar overdrive and primal screaming from vocalist Matt Korvette. Listen to the session below; download “Bathroom Laughter” from the session.
Alice Russell has soulful, sexy voice that I can listen to all night. “Twin Peaks,” a new song from her forthcoming album, Dust, just burns. The album is out on February 23rd. The British singer has worked with The Roots, David Byrne, Quantic and Nostalgia 77 and she’s got a long list of musician fans that includes Dennis Coffey and Daddy G (Massive Attack). You’re gonna want to hit the repeat button on this one.
World Cafe from WXPN and NPR Music is offering up some free downloads of in-studio performances this month. Right now, grab songs from Lord Huron, Calexio, Freelance Whales, John Fullbright and Allen Stone below. Don’t delay though as these songs will only be available until the end of February. Each week, five new songs will be added to the collection.
Fleetwood Mac is one of the greatest bands ever. Producers rarely remix Fleetwood Mac. Why you ask? Most remixers and mashup artists focus solely on what is “hot” now – you know, pop songs and EDM “hits.” The Melker Project wanted to buck the trend and introduce mashup fans to some of the timeless classics that often go untouched in remix culture. You know, GOOD songs. “Skeetwood Mac” is the first in a series of EPs being released by The Melker Project, each focusing on a different classic artist. As the name implies, this EP is comprised of five Fleetwood Mac songs, each mashed up with Hip Hop and R&B standards.
