Yesterday I was hipped to the indie pop band Carousel from Boston (who I understand are on their way to a move to Brooklyn). The three piece – Kevin Friedman, Tyler Cratcha amd Jackson Phillips – have an EP called 26 Allston available for free download from their site here and a few additional singles here. After a few listens it’s easy to understand why so many people have fallen in love with them. We’re talking instant hooks, lush keyboards, swells of body moving electronica energy. I often dislike making comparisons but I will anyway; if you dig Passion Pit, Freelance Whales and of course Postal Service, you’re gonna dig these guys.
welcome to team me, a six piece norwegian pop band who are releasing their debut album called to the treetops in the states in march on propeller records. i missed the blogfamous buzz around the band on the ep they put out last year, however now they’ve hit my radar i’ve got a crush. the songs that team me craft are quite impressive; it’s joyous reach-for-the-skies indie-pop at it’s most melodic, with warm instrumentation and classic pop drive. think prefab sprout, the la’s, fanfarlo, deacon blue…i could go on, but i won’t cause really it’s about a unique voice that team me have as a band. listen/watch below.

We all know what great taste in new and old music bloggers like Justin from Aquarium Drunkard has, so when they waxes on, I typically take notice. Such is the case with the LA based Letting Up Despite Great Faults, a band I’ve taken a quick liking to. The band have a new EP coming in August on Old Flame called Paper Crush that is filled with delicious indie-pop gems. Think Creation Records, Velvet Crush, early Primal Scream, Velocity Girl. Download a couple tunes below.

With only two songs to their name, I’m sold on Cheerleader, Donovan Rex and Max Friday, two musical pals from Hartford, CT. Their indie-pop sounds familiar yet refreshing (cliche violation, sorry), and it’s got me wanting more. Sometimes you listen to stuff like this and you just know; it’s got that special songwriting quality and sound that’s reaching for a higher place on a continuum of indie-pop/rock retread. Extra points for grabbing up one of those really cool hard-to-find-on google band names.
